Take a Trip to the Grand Canyon via Car or Train

One of the biggest reasons travelers base themselves in Williams is its easy access to the Grand Canyon National Park. From Williams, you can drive to the South Rim in about an hour, making it a convenient day trip for sunrise, sunset, or a full day of sightseeing along the rim. For a more memorable experience, you can also take the Grand Canyon Railway, which departs directly from downtown Williams and offers a scenic, stress-free ride to the canyon with onboard entertainment. During the winter season, this same railway transforms into the festive Polar Express Train Ride, a hugely popular holiday experience that draws visitors from across Arizona and beyond.

Visit Bearizona- Arizona’s Drive- Through Wildlife Park

I lived in Arizona for 11 years before visiting Bearizona, and I’m so glad I finally did. Visiting Bearizona Wildlife Park is one of the most unique things to do in Williams, AZ. This drive-through wildlife park lets you see North American animals like black bears, bison, wolves, elk, and mountain goats roaming around in their individual sections. You can bring pets, too- with the windows up. After the drive-through portion, you can explore the walk-through area featuring smaller animals like otters- they’re so cute. Located just outside downtown Williams, Bearizona is a great stop for families, animal lovers, or anyone looking to add something different to their Route 66 or Grand Canyon itinerary.

Canyon Coaster Adventure Park is another family-friendly activity to add to your list of things to do in Williams, Arizona. They have both tubing (snow and summer), and a canyon roller coaster (also runs all year). It is a bit pricey in my opinion, but super fun. My husband and I did glow tubing around the holidays, which was a blast.

Hike to Sycamore Falls

Visiting Sycamore Falls offers a scenic escape into northern Arizona’s forest just a short drive from Williams. This seasonal waterfall is most impressive after spring snowmelt or heavy monsoon rains. Even when the falls aren’t flowing, the area is worth visiting. It’s an easy add-on to a Williams itinerary if you’re looking to experience a quieter, less-crowded side of Arizona nature beyond the main tourist stops.

Grab Coffee at Brewed Awakenings

Stopping by Brewed Awakenings is a great way to fuel up while exploring downtown Williams and the Route 66 Historic District. This cozy, locally loved coffee shop is known for its friendly service, quality coffee drinks, and relaxed atmosphere that makes it easy to linger—whether you’re starting your morning before a Grand Canyon day trip or taking a mid-afternoon break from sightseeing. With a menu that goes beyond just coffee, including teas and light bites, Brewed Awakenings is a reliable go-to for travelers looking to support a local spot and slow down for a moment in the heart of Williams.

Eat at Grand Canyon Brewery & Distillery

I always like to visit a local restaurant or brewery when I check out a new town. I highly suggesst checking out Grand Canyon Brewing & Distillery. It’s one of the most well- known breweries in the state, with their products being sold all over. They have 4 locations, one of which in Williams. The building was really cute, the service and food was good, and I brought home one of their locally distilled vodkas to add to my food and pasta at home.

While Williams is a historic town, it has some newer places to stay that respect the history and have the amenities you may be looking for. First that comes to mind is Trailborn Grand Canyon, located in Downtown Williams near the Canyon Coaster. It’s a beautiful dog-friendly motel with a restaurant, outdoor spaces, and cute rooms. Next on my list would be Village Camp Flagstaff. It’s located 20 minutes away (shown on the video below) towards Flagstaff, with beautiful individual cabins and great views of the mountains and forest. Lastly, I’d like to mention Backland Glamping, a glamping resort in Williams with lots of outdoor adventures nearby.
