Summer in Frisco, Colorado is into an absolute outdoor playground! Picture this: warm sunshine, clear blue skies, and the stunning mountains towering over everything. It’s the kind of place where you can swap your skis for a paddleboard on Lake Dillon, trade your snow boots for hiking shoes on miles of scenic trails, or just kick back on a patio with a craft beer, soaking in that incredible Rocky Mountain vibe. transportation to frisco colorado
There are multiple options to get to Frisco, Colorado based on your perferred method of travel, and where you live.
by plane
If flying is your preference, the closest major airport is Denver International Airport, only a quick 1.5 hour drive to Frisco. If you’re flying from PHX (a majority of my audience), the flights are only 1.5 hours and usually pretty affordable!
road trip
Maybe you like road tripping. Maybe you have a dog and don’t want to leave them behind! If you’re coming from Phoenix, it’s about an 11 hour drive. I would definitely add multiple stops in Colorado if you plan on doing it. Honestly, the drive doesn’t seem as long because you’re driving through so many beautiful areas. Highly recommend a camper van if you’re traveling to Colorado with a dog(s) or a child!
temperature in frisco in summer
You might be surprised to hear that “summer” in Frisco, Colorado, doesn’t always mean sweltering heat. Thanks to its elevation of over 9,000 feet, Frisco enjoys delightfully mild and comfortable temperatures throughout the summer months. You can typically expect average high temperatures to range from the low 70s to low 80s Fahrenheit, with pleasant lows often dipping into the 40s. This means you can enjoy sunny days perfect for outdoor activities without feeling overheated, and then experience refreshingly cool evenings ideal for cozying up. It’s the kind of summer weather that makes you want to spend every waking moment outside!
Keep in mind- some restaurants or lodging do not have air conditioning!
Things To Do in Frisco Colorado in Summer
Let’s get started discussing the best things to do in Frisco Colorado. Keep in mind, there are so many things you can do beyond my post. My goal is to show you the things I actually did, and give you my honest opinions!
1: Enjoy Water Activities at Dillon Reservoir
For anyone looking to get out on the water, Dillon Reservoir is a summer paradise right on Frisco’s doorstep. While swimming is generally prohibited due to the chilly mountain water and its role as a drinking water source, there’s no shortage of other ways to enjoy the lake. You can rent everything from pontoon boats for a leisurely cruise with friends and family to sailboats for a more active adventure. Kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are also incredibly popular, offering a serene way to explore the reservoir’s scenic coves and islands- this was my favorite! The Frisco Bay Marina offer rentals, lessons, and even guided tours, making it easy for everyone to dive into the fun. You can also enjoy the Marina from the shore- it’s a great place to watch sunset!

2. Take a Hike to Rainbow Lake
I mean, you can’t visit the Rocky Mountains without going for a hike, right?! Rainbow lake is the perfect trail if you’re visiting Frisco, Colorado. It’s 1.5 miles round trip and less than 200 ft in elevation gain- great for anyone in your group. Not gonna lie, being at high elevation still had me huffing and puffing! The lake itself is small, but gorgeous. The scenery the entire time is 10/10. To make your hike even better, I suggest grabbing a sandwich from Deli Belly and eating them at the lake (take your trash with you-leave no trace)! Highly suggest adding a hike to Rainbow Lake to your list of best things to do in Frisco Colorado.

3. Bike the Frisco-Breckenridge Pathway
One of the absolute best things to do in Frisco Colorado during the summer is biking or e-biking the stunning Frisco to Breckenridge Pathway. Did you know Frisco is only 8 miles away from Breckenridge?! This paved recreational path, part of the extensive Summit County Recpath system, offers incredible views of the Tenmile Range and the Blue River. I was shocked how well-maintained it was. For those who want a little extra boost (especially on the gentle uphills), E Bikes (my choice, haha) are a fantastic option and widely available. You’ll find numerous reputable rental shops right in Frisco, like Rebel Sports on Main Street, Pioneer Sports, and Adventure Time Rentals, offering a variety of bikes, including e-bikes, and often providing helpful maps and advice for your scenic ride.

4. Watch Sunset From Sapphire Point
Witnessing a sunset from Sapphire Point Overlook, just a short drive from Frisco, is an absolute magical experience and a definite highlight for any visitor. Perched above Dillon Reservoir, this accessible viewpoint offers truly panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks, including the majestic mountain views. As the sky transforms from vibrant oranges and purples to deep reds, the reflections shimmer on the water below, creating a breathtaking and often unforgettable spectacle. It’s a popular spot, so arriving a bit early to secure a good viewing spot is a smart move, but the serene beauty and incredible photo opportunities are well worth it. Theres a 0.6 mile loop you can walk, too. You might even spot some bighorn sheep that frequent the area!

5. Visit this Coffee-Craft Beer Combo Restaurant
Outer Range Brewing Co is one of the coolest restaurants in Frisco, Colorado. In the mornings, this restaurant is a coffee shop: Mountain Dweller Coffee Roasters. Yes, they roast their coffee there AND they make their own syrups. There’s so much space to hang out and work, and a second level balcony with mountain views. In the afternoon and evening, it’s a brewery with local award-winning craft beer, and food. Can I say any more?!

6. Explore Downtown Shops & Restaurants
Main Street in Downtown Frisco is more than just a pretty face; it’s the vibrant heart of the town, bustling with an inviting array of shops and restaurants that are perfect for an afternoon stroll. When hunger strikes, you’ll be spoiled for choice, with options ranging from casual and cozy spots like the Butterhorn Bakery & Cafe for breakfast or lunch, to more upscale dining at Bagalis or Grecos (Italian! PS the pretzel below is Grecos and it was epic). Don’t forget to grab a refreshing drink at one of the local breweries like Highside Brewing. One of the best things to do in Frisco Colorado is enjoy all the delicious food!

7. Stay Overnight in Frisco
One of the best ways to really immerse yourself in the Frisco culture is to stay overnight. We stayed at Hotel Frisco, and I love how close it was to everything- within steps. It also has amazing views- I loved watching the moonset over the mountains from my window.

8. Enjoy Local Events
If you have the chance, I highly suggest attending a local event. I absolutely loved the community vibe. We were there for the Rock the Dock concert which kicks off summer. Everyone was so friendly there. Loved all the doggies too!
