by | Feb 16, 2024

Looking for hiking groups in Phoenix? So many people have come to me asking if I know of Group Hikes… so I decided to make one! I hope that creating these events will help you to branch out and make new friends! Please keep in mind- it is a lot of work for me to organize and I can’t do it all the time, but I was excited to start with this one!

Group Hike 1- Lost Dutchman State Park

Hiking groups in Phoenix? I got you! We chose to hike part of Siphon Draw as our first group hike. I did a poll on Instagram of some nearby locations, and this won. I care about your opinions. I also thought it was a good chance for some of you that haven’t hiked Flat Iron to get a sense of part of the trail.

A Note About Group Hikes

Please Note- Tonto National Forest has a rule that within designated wilderness areas, a group size of no more than 15 is allowed. This is to minimize the impact to the environment and provide solitutde. In non-wilderness areas, they PREFER no more than 15. Always the ideal is to LEAVE NO TRACE. I will follow these rules in my hiking groups in Phoenix.

Parking For Hiking Groups in Phoenix- Lost Dutchman

Since this group hike was within Lost Dutchman State Park, there was a parking fee of $10. I’ll try to limit parking fees, but this area is so worth it! We met at 7:30am around sunrise to hand out goodie bags, take some photos, and start!

Siphon Draw Trail

For this group hike, I chose to do part of the Siphon Draw Trail. I think the basin was a great stopping point. This is a wide flat curved area of rock between the mountains, before it becomes SUPER steep up to Flat Iron.

HIKE STATS

LENGTH: 4.4 mi RT
ELEVATION: 1,074 ft gain
TIME: 2-3 hours
DOG-FRIENDLY: yes
CONDITIONS: epic views, gradual incline up, busy

Destination: The Basin

I chose the basin as the desination of our hiking group in Phoenix. I want you to experience some of the most beautiful views in the valley in a safe environment. We had so much fun!

I absolutely loved watching different people support each other. Everyone had a different pace and that was OK. But people grouped up and made sure everyone was doing OK and that everyone made it. It was the sweetest thing.

Post-Hike Lunch

I was lucky enough to partner with Arizona Wilderness Brewing Co, the perfect post-hike lunch location. Since only 15 can join group hikes, we opened the lunch up to 50 people!

We spent 2 hours here socializing. EVERYONE was seriously so friendly at the lunch. I made some new friends and I know everyone else did too. I left feeling so fulfilled. We definitely need  to do this again. Community is everything!
